Overview

Violet is a Virtual DJ Avatar incarnated by the team of Steph Singer, Royal Opera House, National Ballet of Canada to translate the feeling of identity, justice, healing, and liberation through immersive rave. Steph Singer and her team were looking to promote what it means to be violet and connect their audience with it’s soul to raise awareness for rave performance.‍

Liberation comes from self acceptance

Critiquing the universal objectification of the body while taking on the form of Violet, liberty was understood to accepting and realizing one's own strange, wild, authentic feelings and behaviours that were freed from social conventions in a rave.

Embracing self with zoomorphism

My body will not be a tomb for other creatures. - Leonardo Da Vinci

To release Violet's body from its sociocultural captivity and welcome her unfettered spirit, The creative team at Re:ac8 created an interactive installation that allows viewers to experience violet as inherent energy morphing into different realitites.

Through the use of animal sounds and behaviours, participants were able to evolve and embody the violet's energy, release themselves from social judgment, and experience a sense of liberation.
