One of the UK’s largest music streaming services wanted to explore plausible futures of their service to foster artists on their platform. The intent was to provoke new avenues of art-making with sonic experiences to diversify and increase their audience reach.
“The making of art is immersed in the narratives of critique, exploration and imagination of past, present and future.” - Zehan Lin, British artist
Artists in our workshops reflected on art being highly dependent on experimentation, environment & observation. Researchers have found that when we hear something that is different from what our brain considers ‘expected,’ that generates a brain response. A mismatch that tells us that something is off. These attention grabbing sounds can take human brains to imaginative terrains of our lived experiences or create brain images of different scenarios.
Re:ac8's team curated a sonic theme based art making experience with altered sound boards specially designed to produce & record different sounds during the material interaction. It invites the artist to perform their practice with provocative sounds reacting to choice of materials, colours, pressure, speed forming a narrative and later taking the shape of art exhibited in mixed media.
